Tortuga Island is the most visited island in Costa Rica. It is located near the gulf of Puntarenas.

The beautiful white sand beaches and crystal clear waters of Tortuga Island are great for snorkelling or fishing. As you see in the pic below, the stunning white beach and turquoise water is what makes this island famous.

Tortuga Island is especially charming for its beauty and is famous for its impeccable white sand beach and turquoise waters. It is a perfect spot for swimming and snorkling.

You can get on a boat from either Tambor or Montezuma which will take you out to the Island for the whole day trip. The trip includes Beverages , Lunch on the Island and all fully equipped Snorkelling gear. There are many different companies running this tour but the one I did it with was with Chico’s Tours in Montezuma.

Now, I do highly recommend the following option from my great friend David Reed in case you want to try it from Puntarenas. It is indeed an institution, when it comes to tours. The Island Cruise in the Calypso was my third tour as a tourguide back in 1979. I remembered what a wonderful "first" it was for me. So much so that I even remember the name of one of the girls from New York that I was guiding for. Her name was Denise Giaquinto and there were 4 or 5 more girlfirnds with her. Even then when Calyso Tours did not have the equipment they do have now and the island wasn't Tortuga, but Jesusita Island, it was an incredible excursion that left an indeleble memory in your mind. It was a prelude or contemporaneous event to the Blue Lagoon ;-) je je Ever since I have been friends to David Reed and his family.

Calypso Cruises island tours

Whether you're 2 or 92 no visit to Costa Rica is complete without a trip on Calypso's world famous Tortuga Island Cruise. The day begins at your hotel where you will be greeted by a bilingual guide and seated on an air-conditioned bus. The bus ride takes you to the pacific port of Puntarenas stopping along the way for Costa Rican typical breakfast.

This is an excellent opportunity to view the coffee, sugar plantations, volcanic mountains and the unique Brahman cattle that form an ever-changing panorama.

Upon arrival in Puntarenas you will board Calypso's super catamaran Manta Raya. She is actually designed by Calypso Passengers suggestions since 1975. Manta Raya has fresh water showers and full bar featuring delicious Piña Coladas made with fresh pineapple. The spacious main salon combines with an expansive deck area which includes 2 deck pools, offering a level of cruising luxury and comfort in 100% Calypso style.

Once underway the Manta Raya makes her way to the Gulf of Nicoya.

Her white clad crew pampers guests with fresh tropical fruits and drinks. In the morning the catamaran will pass thru the islands of San Lucas, Gypsy, Sugar Loaf, Guayabo; Jesusita, Cedros and Negritos with Tortuga Island as the destination.

Particularly enchanting for it's beauty, Tortuga Island is known for its immaculate white sand beach and turquoise waters, a perfect stop for swimming, snorkeling and Calypso's famous lunch. For passenger safety and convenience Manta Raya has a bow ramp which allows her passengers to disembark directly onto the beach.

Sip cold wine in the shade of white umbrellas at tables covered with white linen and be served the midday feast. A sumptuous delight, featured in Gourmet Magazine, starts with a ceviche appetizer and followed by a medley of salads. The main dish is a delightful bar-b-qued breast of chicken covered in a mouthwatering tropical sauce accompanied with julienned vegetables all cooked fresh on the grill by Calypso's expert crew.
The Captain and his crew are the masters of this seascape. They are seasoned mariners who will convey their love of Costa Rica to you. Sightseeing, sunbathing, diving, exploring, swimming, eating, drinking, and relaxing.
