Swapping south Bucks for Costa Rica
Nov 3 2008 By Suzy Talbot
A school girl has decided to give up her home comforts and help tackle poverty when she travels to Costa Rica next year.
Amelia Bradley will be joining fellow sixth formers at Dr Challoner's High School on a Raleigh International Trip next July to help provide a water system for the Indigenous Tribes.
She needs to raise £3,000 to help fund the projects and has decided to complete a sponsored swim of 37 lengths at Chalfont Leisure Centre.
This will be the first time Amelia, who lives in Seer Green, has undertaken a charity trip.
The 16-year-old said: "I am hoping that it will show me a completely different culture and it will show me how I can help others and how lucky I am."
She hopes that her and four school friends will be able to do the sponsored swim during the Christmas holiday.
She said: "Last year I did some swimming for my Duke of Edinburgh but I am not a strong swimming so I thought it would a good challenge."
Her fundraising will have to fit in around studying for her AS-Levels in maths, further maths, French, politics and creative thinking.
Then on July 23 next year she will be flying to Costa Rica to spend 23 days on the trip.
She added: "I think I am going to miss my family the most but it is a worthwhile cause. Theses people are ignored by their government."
