San Carlos (Llanuras)

This is one post from:

COSTA RICA COUNTRY LIFE

Northern Country in Costa Rica

When Steinbeck described the Salinas Valley in his book East of Eden, he forever etched in my mind the glorious riches of the typical Northern California valley. If there was some way that he could have come to visit where we live, in the Costa Rican Northern Zone, he would have had to write chapter after chapter of insightful descriptions of the San Carlos and Venado Valley. After all, Costa Rica is well known for it's micro-climates which we live in day to day. Even a ten minute ride into town to run errands can take you from a brisk, foggy morning up where I live on the ridge of Venado Valley, to clingy, humid at the local gas station in town. Every micro-climate is jammed packed with it's own variety of plants and animals to complement it too. The picture above is on our way to Monterrey from La Fortuna, San Carlos. You can see in the background the two small lakes and if it were a clearer day you would be able to see the rest of the lowlands in the distance
